Both Higgins and Liza's father are users. Her father is constantly asking for money and Higgins is using Liza as an experiment to further his own reputation. Liz simply wants to be treated as a woman who doesn't need to work and/or support a man in order to gain his approval. She comes to Higgins in order to better herself and her status in society and both men seem to think of her as a lower class flower girl. She wants to be able to own her own shop, make her own money and be independent.

Liza does not want to be treated as a means to an end, an experiment, a pawn, and/or a "number" instead of a human being.  She has been used by both her father and Higgins, which is extremely sad because both fail to see Liza for the beautiful, intelligent, lively woman she is!
