Posted by renelane on Monday November 26, 2007 at 2:26 PMYou have your socially well-bred elite, which is Mrs. Eynsford-Hill and her children. They have status but no real security financially. It is Mrs. Eynsford-Hill's greatest pursuit to find proper mates to assure their futures.
Higgins and Pickering represent the academic scholars of a presentable class. They are not the socially elite, but have a respectable position, nonetheless. Higgins differs from Pickering however, in that Higgins is more cold and formal in his experiment that Pickering. Pickering can see past superficial manners to the real lady in Liza.
Liza represents the lower class. She is not dressed well, speaks in a rough manner, and is cunning in trying to make money.
