Critical Evaluation:
The poems in Profane Hymns are linked through the feelings and emotions the various lyrics evoke, rather than the ideas they present. It seems to have been Rubén Darío’s purpose to re-create in his readers an appreciation of the awakening to a sense of pleasure, including sensual, even erotic pleasure, which the poet himself encountered in his own life.
