Among his five daughters, Elizabeth is the clear favourite with whom he loves to share his views and attitude to life. Unlike his wife, Mr. Bennet is not interested in marriage-mongering, and his lack of concern is surely responsible for the flighty behaviour of his younger daughters like Lydia and Kate. It's a pity that he never tries to assess himself. Mr. Bennet is portrayed as a sharp foil to the hyper-active, and somewhat ludicrous, Mrs. Bennet.
