Taylor Administration | Introduction

Introduction

Dubbed Old Rough and Ready by the soldiers he commanded, the name was a tribute to Zachary Taylor's willingness to share in physical hardship and combat with the men he commanded. Taylor was never pretentious and did not care for pomp and circumstance or external appearances. Yet, he became a Mexican War (1846–48) hero and eventually president of the United States.
