Early Life
William McKinley Jr. was born in Niles, Ohio, the seventh of nine children, to William and Nancy Allison McKinley. Young William was in many ways a child of U.S. industry: his father was a pig iron manufacturer. At the age of nine, McKinley's family moved to Poland, Ohio, near Youngstown, so that the children could receive a better education.
