John F. Kennedy was raised in a privileged background and shaped by his ambitious father who wanted to establish the Kennedys in positions of influence and power in the United States. Though somewhat detached and ironic in personality, Kennedy served with distinction in World War II, was elected to both the U.S. House and Senate and was a Pulitzer Prize winning author.
