The John Quincy Adams Administration

John Quincy Adams's presidency was the low point of his political career. Opposition from Adams's chief opponent in the 1824 presidential election, Andrew Jackson, and his supporters in Congress made it impossible for Adams to accomplish most of his plans for national improvement. From a political standpoint, Adams was particularly inept, failing to reward his own supporters with appointments in the executive office. After four years of struggling, Adams lost the election of 1828 to Jackson by a wide popular and electoral margin.
