Early Life

Born in Milton, Massachusetts, on June 12, 1924, George Bush hailed from a prominent New England family. His father, Prescott Bush, was a managing partner at the Wall Street investment firm, A. V. Harriman, and served as U.S. senator from Connecticut from 1952 to 1962. His mother, Dorothy Walker Bush, was the daughter of another prominent Wall Street banker, George Herbert Walker. Bush grew up in the affluent New York City suburb of Greenwich, Connecticut, and spent the summers vacationing in Kennebunkport, Maine. As a senator's son and a natural leader, a career in politics was never far from the young Bush's mind.
