Typical of an Irving novel, A Prayer for Omen Meany contains a large number of characters, many of them caricatures. The narrator, Johnny Wheelwright, is the realistic counterpart to Owen Meany, whose small stature, adenoidal voice pitched at a scream, and prophetic visions make him highly symbolic.
