The Story:
Voluspo. Odin, chief of the gods, called an ancient wise woman to prophesy for him. She told first of the creation of the earth from the body of the giant Ymir and cataloged the dwarfs who lived beneath the earth. She then described Yggdrasil, the great ash tree that supported the universe. Its roots reached clear to the underworld, and it was guarded by the three Norns, Past, Present, and Future, who controlled the destinies of human beings.
