This is the poem:

There used to be someone

To whom I could say do youLove me and be sure that theAnswer would always be yes; There used to be someone toWhom I could telephone andBe sure when the operatorSaid do you accept the chargesThe answer would always be yes;But now there is no one to askNo one to telephone from theStrangeness of cities in theLateness of nightness now thereIs no one always now no oneNo someone no never at all. Can you imagine what it isLike to live in a world whereThere is no one now always noNo one and never some some-One to ask to you love me andBe sure that the answer wouldAlways be yes? I live in a worldWhere only the billboards areAlways they’re twenty feet tallAnd the circle the city theyCoax and caress me they heatMe and cool me they promise andPlead me with colour and comfort:You get to sleep with meTonight (the me being ovaltine)But who want s to get to sleepWith a cup of ovaltine whatKind of sleep is that for some-One who used to have someoneTo ask do you love me andBe sure that the answerWould always be yes?
