If Plato is concerned with philosophical truth, why does he write a political theory?

    Because for Plato, there is no difference between the two, or at least there should not be. He argues, "There will be no end to the troubles of states, or indeed, my dear Glaucon, of humanity itself, till philosophers become kings in this world, or till those we now call kings and rulers really and truly become philosophers."

    For Plato, philosophical truth is a product of a just society. Justice is defined by Plato in terms of the right relationship between parts of the self, illustrated by the relationship between different classes of people in society.
