Ultimately, her close-knit community saves her--a teacher finds her a safe and loving home; two childless farmers are willing to take her in on their friend's (the teacher's) recommendation.  I don't think this would happen in a big city.  While the pressure and stigma of being pregnant in a small town gets to be too much, causing her to run away, she has a loving home to return to with the two farmers.  When she has her baby, she has no partner or parent to support her, but she has caring adults from her community who will see her through and take on those roles.
