The Story:
In Syria, King Antiochus’ wife died in giving birth to a daughter. When the child grew to lovely womanhood, King Antiochus conceived an unnatural passion for her. Her beauty attracted suitors to Antioch from far and wide, but King Antiochus, reluctant to give up his daughter, posed a riddle to each suitor. If the riddle went unanswered, the suitor was executed. Many men, hoping to win the princess, lost their lives in this way. Prince Pericles of Tyre went to Antioch to seek the hand of the beautiful princess. Having declared that he would willingly risk his life...
