The 266-year-old Hudson's Bay Company acquires the 213-year-old Revillon Frères and begins shutting down Revillon trading posts in Canada as demand for furs collapses in the ongoing economic recession.

The Robinson-Patman Act passed by Congress June 20 to supplement the Clayton Anti-Trust Act of 1914 forbids manufacturers to practice price discrimination, including use of advertising allowances to favored customers such as chain stores. It requires retailers to sell at prices fixed by manufacturers, making it illegal for them to sell at discount.
