The town of Baie-Comeau established on the north bank of the St. Lawrence River in east-central Quebec Province will become an industrial center with an aluminum plant and grain-exporting facilities. Chicago Tribune publisher Robert R. McCormick has urged creation of the deepwater port to provide a pulp and newsprint milling center.
