Philip Morris cigarettes go on sale in the United States (see 1858; 1902). The musical Ferde Grofé Show that airs on radio beginning April 17 features a commercial opening in which four-foot-tall New Yorker Hotel bellboy Johnny Roventini, 22, cries, "Call for Phil-lip Mor-ris" over a portion of Grofé's 2-year-old Grand Canyon Suite.
