Crime
Italian-born Chicago crime czar James (originally Giacomo) Colosimo is murdered at Chicago May 11 at age 42 (approximate); since arriving in 1895, Colosimo has built what is now an empire of brothels, nightclubs, and speakeasies, his Italian-born enforcer Johnny Torrio, 39, has coveted those properties, and Torrio has allegedly brought in Italian-born New York gangster Alponse "Al" Capone, 21, to kill Big Jim (see 1924).
