National Cash Register Co. converts its Dayton, Ohio, plant to making precision shell timers and airplane instruments on a "fixed fee" (not a "cost-plus") basis (see 1913). Founder and CEO John F. Patterson, now 72, was on the last train to leave Berlin after war broke out in 1914.
