The United Synagogue of America is organized by Romanian-born New York Talmudic scholar Solomon Schechter, 65, to encourage Jews to participate more fully in Jewish life. The central federation of 23 synagogues will grow to link some 835 Conservative congregations in the United States and Canada.
The Anti-Defamation League to fight anti-Semitism in America is founded by the 70-year-old B'Nai B'rith (Sons of the Covenant).
