The Graflex camera patented by Rochester, N.Y., inventor William F. Folmer, 36, is the world's first high-speed multiple-split focal plane camera.

Photographs taken with artificial light are produced for the first time; magnesium flares permit faster shutter speeds, making it possible to take pictures in dark places and produce portraits without requiring subjects to hold still for several minutes (see flash bulb, 1930).
