The Dalton gang from Oklahoma Territory arrives at Coffeyville, Kansas, on the morning of October 5, intending to rob two banks, but the aroused townspeople meet the gang with heavy gunfire. Former train robbers Robert Dalton, 25, and his brother Grattan fall dead along with two others; the Daltons have become folk heroes among farmers and others angry at the railroads for charging high freight rates.
