England's Royal Shakespeare Company has its beginnings in the Shakespeare Memorial Company founded at Stratford-upon-Avon as the resident, seasonal acting ensemble for the Memorial Theatre that will open in 1879. It will receive a royal charter in 1925 and rename itself in 1961.
Theater: Our Boys by English playwright H. J. (Henry James) Byron, 40, 1/16 at London's Vaudeville Theatre, 1,362 performances (a new record that will stand for years); The Shaughrann by Dion Boucicault 11/14 at Wallack's Theater, New York, with Boucicault, H. J. Montague, Ada Dyas; Wolves and Sheep (Volki i ovsty) by Aleksandr Ostrovsky 12/8 at St. Petersburg's Alexandrinsky Theater.
