English photochemist William B. (Blanchard) Bolton, 26, shows that nitrates (by-products of the formation of silver halide and nitrate) can be washed out of photographic emulsions through a process that will be used hereafter in developing (see 1864; Maddox, 1871; Seed, 1879).
