Overpopulation is a red herring invented by the capitalists to justify poverty among the working class, says Karl Marx in Das Kapital. Marx rejects the idea of contraception and favors enhanced production and more equitable distribution of wealth as better ways to improve the lot of the working class.

Parliament makes clear for the first time that a woman can be tried for precipitating her own miscarriage (see 1803; 1937).
