Rep. Daniel Edgar Sickles, 33 (R. N.Y.), wins acquittal in the murder of Francis Barton Key, son of the late lawyer who wrote the words to "The Star Spangled Banner." The younger Key was carrying on an affair with the congressman's attractive wife, Theresa; Sickles shot him dead, and his defense of temporary insanity has prevailed.
