Australian landowner Thomas Austin imports two dozen English rabbits to provide shooting for sport. In 6 years Austin will have shot about 200,000 on his own estate but killed scarcely half the rabbits on his property, and since five of the fast-multiplying animals consume more grass than one sheep, the rabbits will quickly become a major problem for sheep raisers (see myxomatosis, 1951).
