The Virginia legislature forbids further importation of slaves at the persuasion of Thomas Jefferson (see manumission, 1782).

Virginia property owner Hannah Lee Corbin writes to her brother General Richard Henry "Lighthorse Harry" Lee, 46, to protest the taxation of women since they are not permitted to vote. He replies that Virginia women, like women in some other colonies, do have that right (see 1777).
