Biography
My name is Dr. Samantha Ward, and I am originally from Galveston, Texas. I received my Doctorate of Juris Prudence (J.D.) from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law in 1999. I received a B.A. in Spanish and Political Science from Central Methodist University in 1996. I have designed curriculum for top-level executives, attorneys, bar associations, law schools, law firms, legal assistants, paralegals, law enforcement, the military, and many more. My experience includes curriculum and presentation of live, on-site programs, conferences, telephone seminars, webinars, live webcasting, developing digital libraries, and more. I have taught, presented, and consulted for the University of Phoenix, Post University, Grand Canyon University, Ohio Christian University, Austin Women's Small Business Alliance, the New Jersey Institute for CLE, Seattle University Law School, Cumberland Law School at Samford University (Birmingham, Alabama), the State Bar of Wisconsin, the Oklahoma Bar Association, the State Bar of New Mexico, the Association of Continuing Legal Education Professionals (ACLEA), the Missouri Bar, the Missouri Department of Revenue, Central Methodist University, Moberly Area College, and Mineral Area College. I have also interpreted and translated for several Missouri courts and for the Bootheel Migrant Farmworker’s Project. I recently served as the Assistant Director and CLE Programs Attorney at The Missouri Bar. I practiced law for a number of years in Federal Bankruptcy Court in Missouri and Kansas. My international experience includes a study abroad with Duke University in Spain, and a language exchange in Mexico City, Mexico. My husband and I recently completed a year-long trip through Spain, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Canada and the Pacific Northwest. I am a licensed attorney in Texas and Missouri. I have been published in the Texas Bar Journal, the Atlanta Lawyer Magazine, the North Carolina Lawyers' Weekly, and Missouri Lawyers' Weekly. I was featured in Law Enforcement Technology News and the Memphis Bar Journal in fall of 2008. My Habla Blog was recently included in the ABA Journal's Blog Directory and the Texas Lawyers' Blog Directory. The American Bar Association is publishing my books, The ABA Spanish Legal Phrasebook and Letters for Lawyers in Spanish. I live in Austin, Texas with my web developer husband, Joseph. I enjoy reading, walking, Hitchcock movies, Glee, and reruns of the show Designing Women and the mini-series North and South.
