Tonight, I sit here planning the first "discussion" of this text with my students.  It's a night of many firsts... not the least of which is teaching this to my AmLit Juniors after the entire year's anticipation.

While I am looking foward to this as I have no other topic all year, I am hesitant, wanting to present the material in the best way possible.  This text is so beautifully written and it is a vital reminder of regionalism.  It is also one of the most incredible "coming of age" novels written in contemporary America.

I haven't read the book, but I do have a copy of it. You have inspired me to read it over the summer break.

Enjoy.  I have read other "reviews" of the book and they tend to be polarized; there is little ambivilence.  If you think of it, send a post... I'd love to hear your views.

It went well.  We opened with the question, "Do you belive in miracles?"  To which two of them began singing the lyrics!  It was an interesting topic; tomorrow, they have the oportunity to participate in an informal debate.  They don't even have the book yet and are anxious to see it.
