A thesis is a solution to a problem--you need to determine what the problem is in the text that this statement solves. Each of your three paragraphs would state a reason this statement is true.
Another option is to return to the story and find something--an idea, a strange image, a minor character-- that bothers you and then figure out why that something is in the story. The answer that you come to will be your thesis--the solution you've determined based on the story's evidence.
One caution though, a thesis is an statement of argument, and this statement lacks an argumentative edge--a debatable stance--a "because." The statement could lead to a summary rather than an argument--to revealing what happens instead of accounting for or judging what happens based on evidence.
