   "Paul's Case" by Willa Cather is a short story that tells about a disillusioned high school student who takes a trip to New York, not unlike Holden Caulfield, and finds that his imagined life of living like a privileged person, from stolen money, provides him a contentment and satisfaction that his everyday life can not give him. In desperation, he kills himself in front of a train.

   In the story his age is not mentioned, though he is a high school student at Pittsburgh High School.
