I think the British do not have a reason to be rude to the Indians, but they simply act this way toward them because they are the ones who are ruling. Giving them the mindset that they are superior to the Indians. But we see exceptions in this, such as Miss Moore who treats the Indians equally and respects their culture an example of this is how she takes her shoes off before entering the mosque. I dont think that the British have to right to be rude to the Indians, because the Indians havent done anything wrong. In a way I feel bad for the Indians because it is there home and the British really have no right to be there. Posted by caitlingaffney on May 14, 2008. |

I believe that the British think that Aziz character brought all the stereotypes that you could find in the book, on the Indians and their way of life. Referring on the trial they believe that Adela is right, and I think that this trial gave the British another reason to be rude to them, and to Aziz. This is why they want to be sure that Aziz will be sent to jail. So the British use Aziz as the scapegoat for the situation. Posted by camillarivetti on May 14, 2008. |

I don't think that the British ever had a good reason to be rude to the Indians, because the Indians haven't done anything at all to deserve the treatment that the English give them. I think that if one race was to be mean to another it would have to be the Indians being mean to the English because the English are the people that are occupying their country . I disagree on the fundamental question originating this topic. Both because of its use of present, indicating that mayhap the British still control India and that their politeness in any way relevant to the lives of those millions of people. And even if we look at the past context, one cannot truly analise the "rudeness" of the English towards the Indians, both because of the possible reasons behind a lack of politeness and the difference in codes of conduct regarding the society of 200 years ago and today. :) Posted by felipez on May 14, 2008. |

there is not a precise reason of why they are acting like this with the indians. The British might think that their way of acting is what keeps their "honor high" showing their superioty... The British are probably acting like this because they don't feel the need to be polite to a country under their control...
