Sample of Anonymized Records from the population and housing census. This term was adopted in Britain instead of the term Public Use Samples (PUS) used in the USA and Public Use Microdata Files (PUMF) used in Canada for these types of anonymized microdata tapes. Such data-sets are available for varying sizes of sample (from 0.1 to 5 per cent of census records); for individual persons and, often separately, for families and/or households, with differing types of information at each level; and for both the most recent censuses and for 19th-century censuses for which the full manuscript records are already publicly available under the 100 years confidentiality rule.
