management of knowledgeA term used in the ‘new’ sociology of education in the 1970s to link the subject with sociologies of knowledge and power. It refers to the process by which schools and the educational curricula control what passes for valid knowledge, together with the methods by which knowledge is recognized as such, and the emergence of deviant paradigms and interpretations is prevented.
