Heider, Fritz

Heider, Fritz (1896–1988)
A psychologist who was born in Vienna and, after a period in Germany, emigrated to the United States. Heider's most influential work is The Psychology of Interpersonal Relations (1958) in which he uses concepts from Gestalt psychology to develop his theory of balance and causal attribution. Cognitive dissonance and attribution theory both stem directly from Heider's work.
