Geiger, Theodore
Geiger, Theodore (1891–1952)A German sociologist who taught mainly in Denmark. Much of his work has not been translated into English, although his study of social mobility in Denmark (Soziale Umschichtungen in einer dänischen Mittelstadt, 1951) was a classic early critique of the status-attainment tradition of taking occupational prestige as the sole basis of mobility analysis. Some of his work has been translated in Theodor Geiger on Social Order and Mass Society (1969).
