Zyl, Gerard van
Zyl, Gerard van (or Gerard van Zijl) (b ?Haarlem, c.1607; bur. Amsterdam, 19 Dec. 1665).Dutch painter of portraits and genre scenes, the best-known member of a dynasty of painters active in the 16th and 17th centuries. He was a pupil of Jan Pynas in Amsterdam and from 1639 to 1641 worked in London, where he was a friend of van Dyck.
