The Oxford Dictionary of Art | Ziem, Félix

Ziem, Félix (b Beaune, nr. Dijon, ?26 Feb. 1821; d Paris, ?10 Nov. 1911).
French landscape painter. He travelled widely and was highly prolific, painting various types of picture, but he is best known for his views of Venice, which were enormously popular with collectors and earned him a fortune. They are usually high keyed in colour and reminiscent of Turner's pictures of the city. Ziem had studios in Martigues (where there is now a museum devoted to him), Paris, and Venice. He also worked a good deal at Barbizon.
