Ward, John Quincy Adams
Ward, John Quincy Adams (b nr. Urbana, Oh., 29 June 1830; d New York, 1 May 1910).American sculptor, active mainly in New York. He was the most prolific sculptor of public monuments of his period, working until the end of his long life. His portrait statues, equestrian figures, allegorical groups, war memorials, and architectural decorations have solid dignity but none of the genius of his contemporary Saint-Gaudens. The statue of Henry Ward Beecher (1891) in Cadman Plaza, Brooklyn, New York, is often cited as his finest work.
