Ravesteyn, Jan van
Ravesteyn, Jan van (b The Hague, c.1572; bur. The Hague, 21 June 1657).Dutch portrait painter. Like the more famous Miereveld (with whose work his own is sometimes confused) he was a fine craftsman but limited in imagination, his large output being of more historical than artistic interest. His sitters included many members of the court in The Hague. There were several other artists in Ravesteyn's family, notably his brother Anthonie (c.1580–1669), likewise a portrait painter.
