Independent Group
Independent Group.A small and informal discussion group that met intermittently between 1952 and 1955 at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London. Its members included Lawrence Alloway, Richard Hamilton, and Eduardo Paolozzi. The issues they discussed included advertising and mass culture, and the first phase of British Pop art grew out of the group.
