Fancelli, Domenico
Fancelli, Domenico (b Settignano, c.1469; d Saragossa, 21 Apr. 1519).Florentine sculptor whose major works were made for Spain and played an important role in introducing the Renaissance style to that country. These works—all tombs—were made in Italy, but Fancelli visited Spain to install them. They include the tomb of Cardinal Hurtado de Mendoza, Archbishop of Seville (1509, Seville Cathedral), that of Prince John, son of Ferdinand and Isabella (1512–13, convent of St Thomas, Ávila), and that of Ferdinand and Isabella (1514–17, Chapel Royal, Granada).
