cabinet painting
cabinet painting.Term applied to fairly small easel paintings, especially ones intended to be displayed in a domestic setting and viewed at close range. It is often used, for example, in relation to 17th-century Dutch genre paintings, which were usually painted to fit into unpretentious bourgeois interiors.
