    This is a short novel, or novella of only about 200 pages depending on what edition you are reading.  S.E. Hinton sets this story in a small Oklahoma town.  The protagonist, Ponyboy lives with his brothers Sodapop and Darry on the Eastside of town. This is were the "greasers" live.  They are poor and underprivileged, while the "socs" are rich and have whatever they want.
