The Story:
Joel Knox was traveling to his father’s at Skully’s Landing. He had never met the man, and after his mother died, had lived with his Aunt Ellen in New Orleans. She treated him kindly, but he felt abandoned. When a letter came from his father asking Joel to come live with him, he wanted to go. Ellen allowed it, saying she loved him and to come back if he became unhappy. On his eventful trip, he met the twin adolescents Idabel and Florabel Thompkins, neighbors to his father.
