   Once Iago tells him that Othello and Desdemona are lovers, Brabantio says that Othello must have used magic to gain Desdemona's heart. This is both a sign of what might be expected of those from foreign lands, and an indicator of racism: he's saying that Desdemona couldn't love Othello for his merits/without witchcraft.
