Topic: Do relationships in "Othello" lack significance, or are they merely used as dramatic devices to offset the tragedy of Othello himself?

I want to compare the relationship of Iago and Emilia with that of Othello and Desdemona. Are there any really good quotes i could use for this?

I disagree with that statement. Relationships in "Othello" are extremely significant to the play apart from developing Othello himself as a character. For instance, the relationship between Emilia and Desdemona is an exceptional example of female trust issues. Iago's relationship with Cassio deals with themes of hierarchy and power. I have even seen a version of "Othello" done by the Seattle Shakespeare Company in which Iago and Cassio had a homosexual relationship, which gives even more meaning to their relationship. The relationships in the play all create meaning independently of their support of the character of Othello.
