    The response to this question is to identify the conflict of the story.  This story is a Utopian story that presents a perfect world.  However, in order to live in that perfect world, a person must sacrifice a child.  To ascribe to the ethical code is to commit the sacrifice.  To conflict with the code is to walk away.
